Detectives have made an arrest in a domestic shooting that left a woman dead.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Billy Pettice, 38, is facing murder and another charge in the shooting death of DeDawn Bush, 20.

The shooting happened on College Drive near Bardwell Drive around 9:15 p.m. on June 13, 2018.

Sgt. L'Jean Mckneely with BRPD said detectives determined Bush was walking on the sidewalk when the shooter walked up behind her and started firing. He added she was shot several times.

According to investigators, the shooter ran off and the victim died at the scene.

Family members started a GoFundMe to help pay for Bush's funeral expenses.

According to the probable cause report, Pettice and Bush had been in a relationship, but there was a "domestic type altercation" on Feb. 10, 2018. The report stated Pettice had been in Alaska and had only recently returned to Baton Rouge.

Witnesses told investigators Pettice had gotten angry after learning Bush had been seeing another man, according to the PC.

The report stated Pettice jumped off a bridge in Galveston, TX, on June 15 "in what is believed to be an attempted suicide." It added he was treated for his injuries at a hospital there and upon his release from the hospital, it was learned of the arrest warrant for him in Baton Rouge on a charge of theft of a firearm.

According to the arrest warrant, Pettice is suspected of stealing his cousin's gun on the same day Bush was shot.

Pettice was booked into the Galveston jail and then sent back to Baton Rouge to face charges.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and theft of a firearm.

He is currently being held without bond.
