SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Caddo Parish School board has taken steps to tighten up student check-out policies and procedures at schools across the district.

The move comes two months after after a 5-year-old Werner Park Elementary student was checked out of school back in December by two 13-year-old girls. School leaders said procedures were not followed.

Two weeks ago, KSLA News 12's Dominique Benn also investigated the issue. As part of the investigation, KSLA News 12 showed a man walking into Southwood High School to check out a child that was not his.

At Tuesday's school board meeting, members unanimously approved a draft version of a five-step procedure proposed by school board Vice President Dottie Bell.

The policy requires anyone picking up a student to show a picture ID, and that person must be listed on the student's information sheet. Verification calls to numbers listed on those information sheets will also be required.
