SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
The 2012 Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Issue hit newsstands on Valentine's Day and featured an ArkLaTex model.
KSLA News 12's Adria Goins spoke with super model, Ariel Meredith, and her family to find out if fame has changed Meredith. Meredith is a proud Shreveport native and took time from her busy schedule to talk to KSLA News 12. Meredith says she travels the world to promote the magazine, what many models consider the accomplishment of their career. She appeared on The David Letterman Show in New York. "So happy to be talking to my hometown. Amazing," says Meredith. "I never thought that I would be where I am today." This is the second SI appearance for Meredith. She was featured in the magazine in 2009.
A majorette at Huntington High School growing up, Meredith was discovered at 14-years-old, spending her weekends doing photo shoots for JC Penney and Kohl's. Now, she walks runways in Milan and Paris.
Meredith's mother and father, Marjorie and David, say they are proud of their daughter even though they sometimes see a little more than they bargained for of their daughter. "I saw her in a little bikini and I told her, ‘You've got a lot of cheeks out'," says Marjorie Meredith.
The women in SI are featured on VH1's "Sports Illustrated: The Making of Swimsuit." The special will air through Tuesday.
