Bossier City family struggles after serious motorcycle crash

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A Bossier City father has faced some unexpected challenges after he was crippled by a motorcycle accident.  Only days after Matthew Stiles and his family bought a new house, a new car, and found out they were having another baby an unexpected driver allegedly pulled out in front of him on Kings Highway, breaking every bone in his foot.

He has been confined to a wheelchair for the past four months.  The entire foot peg on his motorcycle sliced through his foot. Stiles said his doctor told him there was a 99 percent chance he would walk with a cane for the rest of his life and his arms would be scarred.

Since the accident Stiles has not been able to work. The family went from two incomes to one, with his wife working weeks before her due date.

"We went from making 4 to $5,000 a month to $1,200 and that's it."

Stiles said the biggest burden his family is under has been that insurance from the other driver only covered half of the medical expenses from the accident.

"My medical bills are $28,000 and I'm not even done yet."

Stiles said he has struggled to find a job since some employers only see his wheelchair as a disability.

"It's not something I deal with well."

Friends of the Stiles family set up a fund to help with the families mortgage and bills they have struggled to keep on top of since the accident. The account is under the name Matthew and Anna Stiles at Chase Bank.
