SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The Shreveport father convicted last week in the death of his infant son will spend life in prison.

Grady Earl Thornton, 22, was convicted last week by a Caddo Parish jury of second degree murder in the death of three-month-old Terrell Thornton in July of 2008.

Today, Thornton was sentenced to life in prison at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Judge Scott Crichton pronounced the sentence in Caddo District Court shortly after 3 p.m.

Prior to issuing the sentence, Judge Crichton denied a defense motion seeking a modification in the charge. Thornton agreed to waive the 24-hour waiting period following the judge's ruling on the motion.
