KSLA StormTracker 12 Weather Update: Latest on Wintry Mix

Posted: Updated:
UPDATE: The latest forecast models show accumulation can be expected to be between 1/2 and 1 1/2 inches along the I-30 corridor, with the snow/sleet falling mostly between the hours of 3am and 9am. After 9 or 10, the wintry stuff becomes mostly rain, melting away that snow.
I-20 corridor will see some flurries overnight, but mostly rain and no accumulation. The rain will stick around through the afternoon tomorrow.
Have a great evening, and please drive safe tomorrow, especially on bridges and overpasses, freezing rain is still a possibility.

UPDATE: The latest model data is in, and I just got done analyzing it. Even though "wintry mix" is still the phrase to stand by, I am leaning more heavily towards snow and sleet, and less towards freezing rain. Right now I like 1 inch of snow/sleet north of I-30, falling overnight through about 9-10am. In the late morning it transitions into more of a rain event, which will melt and wash away the small amount of snow that does stick.
I-20 and south could see a brief period of flurries overnight, but it will quickly transition to rain, and will stay that way through the morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Sevier, Howard, Little River, Hempstead, Nevada, Miller, Lafayette, McCurtain, Red River, and Bowie Counties. This advisory lasts until noon on Monday, and means that travel will be impacted on Monday morning in those counties.

In the places under that advisory, a wintry mix will arrive by in the ArkLaTex overnight, bringing mostly snow and ice along the I-30 corridor. That will continue until the late morning hours, where the snow and ice will be replaced by rain as temperatures warm up a few degrees. Accumulations will be on the range of 1/4 inch to 1 1/2 inches of wintry precip. It won't last long though, because the rain will quickly melt it away by the early afternoon.

Farther south, very little winter weather is expected. There is a possibility of seeing some flurries overnight along the I-20 corridor, but it will be brief, and quickly replaced by a rain-only event.

Rain will continue through the day and into the evening tomorrow.
If you live north of I-20, and especially north of I-30, be extra careful when driving tomorrow morning. Bridges and overpasses, which are prone to freezing, will require extra caution.
