SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Whitney Houston's music filled Ark-La-Tex airways this weekend, after news of her death shocked her fans who said they not only loved her music- They were inspired by her story.
"A star that stayed in it for umpteen years, and regardless of the trials and tribulations that she went through, she always seemed to come back with a hit or bounce back," said Edward Bates.
Local radio personality, Carl Staples, said he remembers his daughter singing along with Houston's records.
"She was like family it seemed like because we patterned a lot of what she (his daughter) was doing, growing up, to what Whitney was doing also when it came to singing," said Staples.
Houston's voice made her one of the top-selling artists in pop music history, with more than 55 million records sold in the U.S. alone.
"She was a great talent, great voice, and she's gonna be sorely missed," Staples said.
Staples said while he's sad to see the star gone so soon, he's glad to help her voice live on by playing her music.
