SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Dozens met in Shreveport Saturday to discuss the state of the city's black community.  The "State of black Shreveport" symposium was held at Booker T. Washington High School.

There were panel discussions, as well as a question and answer session where folks talked about political and economic empowerment.  Getting civic and religious organizations more involved in the community was also touched on.   But the first order of business was education.  "I do think that we have to recreate or reconstruct that village where organizations in our community, whether they be religious, or otherwise, fraternities or sororities, those things have to re-insert themselves as people concerned about children, said Theron Jackson.

Organizers tells KSLA News 12, they plan to make this an annual event.
