Bossier City Fire Fighters claim underpayment

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

Bossier City leaders are scrambling to figure out if fire fighters have been underpaid for the last few years. And if it's true, how would they come up with the back pay.

City council was reportedly told of the alleged underpayment by members of the Bossier City Fire Fighters' union on Tuesday.

In response to that claim city council has scheduled a special meeting next Tuesday to discuss launching an investigation. City leaders want to find out what happened, and how much money the city would owe to pay for retroactive salaries of a large number of fire fighters dating back to 2008.

"That's why we wanted to initiate the investigation is to find out if in fact that's true and if so how much do we owe in back pay," said Bossier City Council President, David Montgomery Jr.

The meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday after the regularly scheduled city council meeting. That's when city council members will vote on a resolution to launch an investigation.

Montgomery says the city council wants all of the process to be transparent and open to the public.
