LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Around 11:15 Sunday night a patrol officer driving past the 1300 block of 82nd street noticed smoke coming out of one of the office spaces. Lubbock firefighters were called out to Speed Pro Imaging and put out the fire and shortly after they discovered a body in a car in the garage area of the business.
Police homicide investigators were also called to the scene, as were investigators with the Fire Marshal's office. The car was severely burnt and the top half was seemed to be missing. The Police Department has not identified the body at this time. They have yet to release whether the death was caused by fire or other factors.
Lubbock fire officials released this statement on Tuesday:
"Firefighters responded to a structure fire located at 1303 82nd late Sunday night after a Lubbock Police officer noticed smoke coming from the business and reported the fire. Once inside, firefighters discovered that the fire was limited to a vehicle parked in a warehouse area of the business. Firefighters also discovered a body in that vehicle. Once the fire was extinguished and the structure was ventilated, the scene was turned back over to the Lubbock Police Department. Preliminary evidence on the fire investigation indicates the ignition took place in the engine compartment of the vehicle and spread to the passenger compartment. Fire damage was limited to the vehicle with smoke damage throughout the business. No further information available at this time."
On Feb. 14, the victim was identified as 40-year-old Ricky Lee Mora.
