SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport police officer was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday for bankruptcy fraud.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finely said 46-year-old Joey M. Willis, a SPD officer, was indicted for hiding assets from his creditors during his bankruptcy proceeding and lying under oath. Finely said Willis' bankruptcy case was filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Shreveport in 2009. Willis is charged with one count of hiding assets from creditors and the U.S. Trustee, two counts of lying on his bankruptcy statements and three counts of lying under oath.

Willis is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Shreveport on February 14th at 2 p.m. Willis faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each indictment.

This case is being investigated by the FBI, the Shreveport resident agency and the U. S. Trustee's Office. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph G. Jarzabek.
