This Wednesday, there will be a National Test of the Emergency Alert System. It will be the first time the system has been tested at the same time all across America.
The test will start this Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock and will last about three minutes.
Broadcast television, cable, satellite providers and radio stations are all required by law to participate in the test.
The whole idea behind the Emergency Alert System is to allow the President of the United States to address the public in the event of a national emergency.
This test on Wednesday will give federal, state and local officials their first chance to see if it actually works. So on Wednesday at 1 o'clock, when every station on your television and radio is conducting the test.
Remember, it's only a test. I'm James Smith.
