Oct. 16: Improving Higher Education Editorial

A study will soon be underway to determine what can be done to improve higher education in Northwest Louisiana.

Part of the research is to see if combining the resources of LSU-Shreveport, Louisiana Tech and the LSU Health Sciences Center would elevate the quality of higher education in our part of the state.

Any time you suggest something like this, it will raise objections and questions, but also opportunity. I say, let the study be completed and then we can all take a look at the results and recommendations. 

Then the debate can begin.

At least we'll have fresh information and perhaps a new approach to higher education in Northwest Louisiana.

I want to commend the Committee of 100, the S-B Higher Education Imperative and the Community Foundation of Northwest Louisiana for their leadership to get this study done.
