Aug. 3: UPDATE: Future of Local TV

Posted: Updated:

Over the past few weeks, I asked for your help in securing the future of free, local broadcast television.

I'm proud to report, this first battle has been won, but the war is not yet over.

As you may recall, the immediate concern was congressional action involving Spectrum. Spectrum is how our digital signal reaches your home antenna. Spectrum is also used by communication companies to deliver information to your smart phones.

There is a move in the federal government to reduce the amount of Spectrum allocated to local TV stations and repurpose it for other forms of communication. We believe free, local TV is essential in today's world.

Local broadcasters are there in emergency situations relaying life saving information, we're there bringing you news important to your daily lives, and the most watched entertainment programming is on local TV stations. It's something we all have an interest in protecting.

Again, for those who contacted their congressmen and senators on our behalf, Thank You. I'll keep you posted on future developments. I'm James Smith.
