By now, most of us are aware of the danger online predators pose to our children.
There are hundreds of documented cases across the country where these sex offenders try to contact children on computer networks. Now in Louisiana, there is a new law designed to give police added authority to catch them and prosecute them.
The new law makes it a crime for certain registered sex offenders to get into Internet chat rooms or social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.
The problem is, these sex offenders are often anonymous when they are online and are able to easily interact with kids. The goal is to keep them from doing that.
Of course, a new law is great, but enforcing it is the tough part. Parents will still need to be vigilant and talk to your kids about this dangerous aspect of the Internet.
I'm James Smith.
