Here in the Ark-La-Tex weeks and weeks with very little rain, combined with temperatures in the 90's have left our fields and forests exceptionally dry, which is a real fire hazard.
That's why officials throughout our area have called for a ban on fireworks this Fourth of July.
It's essential we all pay attention to the ban. If fireworks this Fourth of July are banned in your community, follow the rules and don't take a chance.
We've already seen wildfires in Texas. It only takes a spark and property and lives are quickly put in harms way.
Law enforcement will be watching for violators, but they can't be everywhere. It's up to each of us, especially you parents, to do the right thing and observe the ban on fireworks.
I'm James Smith.
