June 5: Viewer Comments on Matter of Trust Editorial

Posted: Updated:

My editorial on the Bossier Police Department giving out false information about their subject in the triple murder case resulted in a few viewer comments this week.

As you may recall, the police department told the public they were looking for a White or Hispanic male, when in fact, they were looking for a black male.

These viewers support the police department's tactic.

Linda called and said, "The triple homicide was a big deal and the Bossier Police Department did what they had to do to catch the alleged killer."

Gene wrote, " The police are under no obligation to give you any information that might hinder the apprehension of a suspect." " If you had broadcast the description, he might have fled and possibly harmed someone else. Your indignation is amusing."

On another topic, I urged passage of laws prohibiting convicted criminals currently in jail from having web sites and Facebook postings. A serial killer from Shreveport, Nathaniel Code has postings online.

This viewer wrote, "I agree with the importance of laws being passed to prevent this." "The idea of beings such as Nathaniel Code and other criminals having a way to the outside is revolting." " I'm sure the victims of these individuals crimes are just as sickened at the thought."

Your comments are always welcome. I'm James Smith.
