May 8: Remembering our World War II Vets editorial

Posted: Updated:

They're called the greatest generation. The men and women who served our country during World War II.

Those still with us are in their 80's and 90's today.

This week, more than two dozen of those veterans from the Ark-La-Tex are taking a special trip to Washington D.C. They will visit the World War II memorial, Arlington National Cemetery and the Iwo Jima Memorial.

All places that hold special significance for those who fought in World War II.

The trip is made possible by Brookshire's. It's called the World War II Heroes Flight and KSLA News 12 has been invited to accompany the veterans and tell their story.

Anchorman, Pat Simon, a Lt. Col. in the National Guard will be there every step of the way.

We're proud to do our part to honor these local citizens. Watch for Pat's stories from Washington, starting Tuesday on KSLA News 12 at 6:00.

I'm James Smith.
