May 4: Good Riddance Osama bin Laden editorial

Posted: Updated:

It's almost a decade since thousands died in the now infamous 9-11 terrorist attacks on America.

The mastermind behind it all is dead and we join the growing chorus of Americans and those across the world who say, good riddance to Osama Bin Laden.

Ultimately, U.S. intelligence agents and the greatest military in the world, our own, located and killed Bin Laden.

His heavily fortified base in Pakistan was no match for America's determination to see him dead, no matter what the cost.

But, while the celebrating is expected to last for some time, so is the reality that the threat from terrorism hasn't waned.

In fact, many critical U. S. military bases, including Barksdale, Camp Minden and the Red River Army Depot are already on heightened alert as the threat of retaliation exists.

Ever since 9-11 the world has changed forever. Just because Bin Laden is gone doesn't mean we'll see fewer security checks at the airport, or should we expect that Americans will become, or should become, less vigilant against another terrorist attack.

So, yes, we have reason to celebrate now that Osama Bin Laden is gone. Killing Bin Laden was a great job carried out by U.S. forces.

Lest we not forget, many others are in line to take his place and we're still living in very dangerous times. Don't let your guard down, ever.
