Which is the healthiest parish in Northwest Louisiana? it's Bossier Parish.
That's according to a new survey commissioned by the University of Wisconsin. The survey ranks all 64 parishes.
Bossier Parish comes in as one of the healthiest parishes in the entire state at number four on the list. Caddo Parish, which is just across the Red River, doesn't fare as well coming in at 38.
In fact, most parishes in our part of the state don't do that well.
According to the study, the health of a community depends on many factors, which range from; individual behaviors like smoking, over-eating or lack of exercise. Other factors that come into play are education, the quality of health care and the environment.
So how do we get those health scores up? The number one way is to raise the standard of living.
A better educated population means a better paid population and, in general, that correlates to a healthier population.
