One of the fun things about living in the Ark-La-Tex is the film industry that has grown up here.
Just this week, the brand new Millennium Studios held its grand opening. It's located in the Ledbetter Heights neighborhood of Shreveport. It cost around $10 million to build.
Some of that money was invested by the City of Shreveport. At the time, it was somewhat controversial. Why should the city sink money into a movie studio?
Well, there are a lot of reasons.
Shreveport has a real opportunity to make the movie industry a permanent part of our economy. A first class production facility goes a long way toward making that happen.
Of course, significant tax breaks from the State of Louisiana are also essential to keeping a thriving movie industry here because a lot of other states are also trying to attract the movie business.
The combination of tax breaks and state of the art production facilities certainly give us an advantage.
