Feb. 16: Open Meetings in Government

Posted: Updated:

The more our government can be open to the public, the better. That's why we appreciate what the Arkansas House is doing.

Four house panels have voted to allow their proceedings to be broadcast live on the Internet.

They are the Governmental Affairs Committee, the Agriculture Committee, the Insurance and Commerce Committee and the Aging, Children and Youth Committee.

More are expected and the Arkansas Senate is considering doing the same. This is great news because not all of us can travel to Little Rock and sit in committee hearings, but most of us do have access to follow the proceedings on the Internet.

You can go to our web site, www.ksla.com and in the Links in the News section on our home page, click on the link titled 'Arkansas Open Government'. That will take you to the site where you can watch the proceedings live online.

Open government is good government. Let's hope this trend catches on. I'm James Smith.
