
September 7 & 9: Auditions for Red River Children's Chorale - Auditions for interested Rising Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade students will be held Tuesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 9, from 6:00pm to 7:45pm at First Presbyterian Church, 516 Pecan St, Texarkana, AR. Children must be registered to Audition by Friday, September 3 at 4:30pm. Concert date is Thursday, March 10, 2011 and children selected will be required to pay $15 in dues. September 14: A Place That Warms The Heart Support Groups - A Place That Warms the Heart is an organization that provides grief services in a caring and compassionate environment to allow each individual or family member to grieve in his or her own way. All of the services are free of charge. The groups are facilitated by trained professionals who listen and guide the participants on their journey. The Groups are as follows: Significant other group - for adults who have lost a significant person, such as a spouse, sibling, older parent. Parent's Group - for parents who have lost a child. Early Infant Loss Group - for parents who have lost a baby by miscarriage, SIDS, stillborn birth, or soon after birth. Groups will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport. Each Session is for eight weeks. These groups are closed groups. September 15: The Hypogeum Society Presents Haynesville: A Nation's Hunt for an Energy Future - Viewing will take place at The Shreveport Club, 410 Travis Street. Cocktails and a cash bar will be available starting at 5:30pm, the screening will begin at 5:45pm, and Dinner and Discussion with the filmmakers will start at 6:45pm. The cost is $30 per person. September 17: NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet - KSLA News 12 is proud to sponsor this years event at the Clarion Hotel, 1419 East 70th Street starting at 7:00pm. This event is the organization's chief fundraising effort and will feature keynote speaker Rev. Dr. E. Edward Jones, pastor of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and President Emeritus of the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. The celebration will also include "The Legal Clinic" offered by the Shreveport-Bosser Black Lawyers Association. Residents will have the opportunity to come and learn about legal matters and ask questions regarding their rights. The Legal Clinic will also be held at the Clarion from 10:00am to Noon. September 18: 2010 Northwest Louisiana Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® - KSLA News 12 is proud to sponsor this years 5 K (3.1 mile) Run/Fitness Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk for All. The Race honors breast cancer survivors several ways: The Survivor's tent opens at 7:00 a.m. Race day for special activities, Survivors receive pink T-shirt and hat designating them as a survivor, and all survivors are recognized in front of the stage at 7:30 a.m. for the Pink Parade.
Packets (your race shirt, race bib and sponsor goodies) may be picked up at Sportspectrum located on the corner of East 70th Street and Fern Avenue in Shreveport the week prior to the race – September 13-17th for those pre-registered. You can also register in person during that week and pick up your packet. Teams Packets can be picked up on the 15th through 17th from 12- 6pm at Sportspectrum. Only the team captain can pick up for the team. Sportspectrum is located on the corner of East 70th Street and Fern Avenue in Shreveport. Timing Chips will be available for purchase for $5 each for those wanting to be timed. Timing and competitive awards will only be for the 5K. You will pick up your chip at Sportspectrum the week prior to the race or on race day at the Chip Timing booth. These will not be available with the teams packets. Individuals on a team must arrange to pick up their timing chip at Sportspectrum or pick them up on race morning. Chips will not be available for purchase on race day, only for pick up.
