Victim in fatal hit & run accident in Bossier City identified

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) – Bossier City Police identify Tuesday afternoon the woman killed Monday night in a hit and run crash along Interstate 20.

Police say she's 66-year-old Sarah Margaret Gillespe of Shreveport. As of Tuesday, the suspected driver, 36-year-old Luis Antonio Diaz of Shreveport remains in jail.

The fatal accident happened around 8:30 pm Monday on I-20 westbound near the Hamilton Rd. exit in Bossier City. Police say Gillespe had just pulled her vehicle to the side of the highway, stepped out and was allegedly struck by Diaz who then fled the scene.

Diaz, according to police, face charges of second DWI offense, felony hit and run and no driver's license. Diaz, police say, is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Shreveport Police arrested Diaz later Monday night after he called Caddo Parish 911 and reportedly admitted that he struck someone along I-20 earlier in the evening.

The dark green Saturn Diaz was allegedly driving at the time was located in the Werner Park section of Shreveport and impounded for further investigation.
