SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – A Caddo Parish jury has found a former Caddo Parish softball coach not guilty of molesting a former student.
Prosecutors finished their closing arguments in the case of former Southwood softball coach Gregory Frazier on Friday afternoon and shortly thereafter the jury got the case. He's was on trial for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of his students.
The case has drawn lots of attention, with a standing-room-only crowd inside the courtroom. Many people interested in the trial had to wait outside the courtroom.
Frazier not guilty, but it's not over yet
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – When the not guilty verdict was read aloud in the crowded Caddo Parish courtroom gasps followed. In fact the crowd had to be silenced by Caddo Parish deputies. Some were very excited about the verdict, others were extremely disappointed.
When asked if he wanted the jury polled and have each jury give their verdict Prosecutor, Hugo Holland said, "No, I'm ready to set the next trial date". And that let the Frazier team know, there are more legal battles ahead.
"I'm feeling really good, I'm not prepared to say anything," said Frazier as he exited the courthouse.
Frazier's victory - a not guilty verdict - was celebrated by family members just outside the courthouse in the streets.
"We get our lives back, we get our normal lives back, and my dad gets to be there for us," said one of Frazier's daughter's, Tiffany Frazier.
"We're not stopping until this man is in prison where he needs to be," said Holland.
He doesn't agree with the jury's decision, and his office has already started working on another trial.
"Well, he was acquitted on charge number one for victim number one, but we've got victim number two, and victim number three, and charge number two and charge number three we're going forward with," said Holland.
Frazier is aware that he's still in the cross hairs of the DA's Office, and could stand trial based on what other alleged victims have told prosecutors.
"I guess according to what they've said we're going to have to turn around and do it again," said Frazier.
When asked if he was prepared for another legal battle, Frazier motioned to his attorney, Elton Richey and said, "He is".
Frazier's defense attorney, Elton Richey will have to get right back to work knowing that his client will leave the courthouse tonight, hand in hand with family, only to come back to answer more molestation charges.
So it's certainly not over yet, Frazier will have this victory under his belt, but his defense will have to scramble for round two.
